- My Story -

February 10, 2023- I woke up to countless missed calls at 6:03AM. My husband’s work had told me to call the Missouri emergency room, because my husband had been admitted. I immediately ran into my mom’s room while dialing… As i called in, i was put on hold 3 different times. It seemed like forever once they came on and kept asking me this question after every attempt to save him was told to me.

“Mrs.Sodders, do you understand what we’re telling you?”

Clearly, i didn’t understand anything. I just needed to know where I was going, so I can jump on a plane and get to my husband.

“Mrs.Sodders… he didn’t make it.”

I looked at my mom blankly. In disbelief. How can such a strong resilient man be gone that quickly? That easily? A heart attack at 41?

We had just made our 2 year wedding anniversary. We had 2 little boys… a 3 year old and 18 month old, who needed their daddy. A wife who needed her husband. Her companion and best friend.

Nothing could prepare me for the heart ache that was to come. The loss that fuels the pain that causes the loneliness. The dark places i would go. The numbing i would turn to.

It was close to impossible to find grief support that allowed me to really speak about my feelings. A place to connect with others who felt pain in a way i did. Someone who understood my new journey. My life was forever changed and i had no idea how to navigate my future.

Fairly quickly, i was lead to the opportunity to start Grief with Hope. We had no idea where it would lead us to, but we’ve become pretty successful in helping our community with their healing after loss. Which in turn, helps me in my healing.
